MERCY CENTER'S SPRING
EQUINOX CELEBRATION OFFERS EVENTS FOR WHOLE FAMILY
Free programs on March 15 & 16 feature birds, tours,
exhibitors, outdoor nature activities and a plant sale
Mercy Center at Madison will play host to birds,
eco-exhibitors, outdoor nature activities, eco-raffle
and a plant sale for its second annual Spring Equinox
celebration Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.
Free Saturday programs begin at 9 a.m. for the whole
family!
9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Environmental organizations will be
exhibiting information and resources, plant sale and
eco-raffle.
9:30 a.m.: Nature Awareness: Justin Pegnataro from Two
Coyotes Wilderness School and Cynthia Kazmirsky,
associate program presenter at Mercy Center will share
stories, play games and learn how to make fire.
Outdoors. Free
9:30 a.m.: Mercy Center Tour: This popular event is
being conducted by Mercy Center's Executive Director,
Jim Emswiler. The tour will include the historic 18-room
summer estate of retail chain store magnate W.T.Grant
(originally home to Marie Oakes Hotchkiss, the daughter
of a Long Wharf shipping merchant); the story of
SeaScape, a gracious home donated to Mercy Center by two
Hollywood stars and moved to Mercy Center in the 1990s;
and more. Free
11 a.m.: Wind Over Wings: Hope Douglas will share
stories and life of four magnificent birds rehabilitated
through their organization. We have requested a golden
eagle, Connecticut's 'other eagle' which is very rare
with most sightings during migration or in winter. Free
Sunday features meditative walk
1 - 2 p.m. A Walk in Mindfulness with Robert Kuchta:
Reflect and listen to the energy and spirit to re-engage
with your internal voice. Take time to smell, touch and
connect to the multitude of habitats and places on Mercy
Center's beautiful grounds, including the seashore,
wetlands and labyrinth garden. Free
