Northeast Utilities Environmental and Property Management Director
Northeast
Utilities seeks an experienced individual who will be responsible for
overall environmental strategy, corporate goal setting, and oversight of the
environmental management system. Individual will promote NU's environmental
leadership/stewardship and develop/be responsible for guiding key strategic
initiatives for the NU system. Responsibilities will include providing
environmental leadership both inside and outside the company, overseeing
regulatory audits, compliance, remediation and field environmental
operations, as well as interfacing with regulatory agencies, legal,
government, nongovernmental groups and other key stakeholders at the federal
and state level. The incumbent in this position is also responsible for
corporate real estate functions including development and execution of asset
management strategies; provides executive oversight of corporate facilities
functions. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or related field and
knowledge of environmental regulations are required. A related, advanced
degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of 10 years of environmental
experience is required as well. The selected candidate must possess strong
communication skills, be self motivated and bring strategic, influential and
innovative thinking to the position.

Housatonic Environmental Literacy Program Educator/Naturalist
Three positions available for highly qualified and motivated individuals. Work for the Housatonic Environmental Literacy Program (HELP), a joint venture of the Mass Audubon (MAS) and the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) in both classroom and field settings, with children, youth and adults. Successful candidates will teach/lead school programs and field trips. BA or BS (or equivalent) in a biological, physical or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation or education. Minimum experience as an intern, apprentice, or seasonal teacher/naturalist. Strong communications skills: speaking, writing, and/or graphics. Ability to work cooperatively and independently. CORI/SORI checks mandatory. Flexibility and sense of humor required. Hours: 27-32 per week during the school year. With the potential for additional summer hours. Salary: $15/hour. Plover Intern: The Refuge is recruiting one Piping Plover Technician
Intern to help the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the State of Connecticut
manage and protect federally threatened piping plovers and state listed
least terns breeding from Westbrook to Stratford. Duties include nest
counts, productivity surveys, erecting predator proof exclosures, public
outreach, and volunteer coordination. This is an opportunity for someone to
get experience with biological monitoring as well as public outreach on a
National Wildlife Refuge and with the Connecticut Department of
Environmental Protection. Opportunities may exist to assist with other
Refuge projects.
Tern Management Interns: Two interns needed at the Falkner Island Unit to census breeding terns, monitor productivity, conducting feeding observations, data entry. The position involves night and morning work, extensive beach walking, living in a field camp setting which includes electricity, cooking facilities and running water. Housing available while working on the Island and possibly on days off.
Position time frame: May through August. Interns may be eligible for temporary housing and a stipend of up to $220 per week. Additionally, the Refuge is looking to recruit two Workkamper/volunteers (possible a couple, two friends, etc. for one trailer/RV hookup) to do general refuge grounds maintenance work and office work for approximately 30 hours a week each from May through September in exchange for a full RV/trailer hook-up (electric, water, sewage), plus a possible stipend. Audubon Important Bird Areas Program Coordinator

development of the CT IBA Program and assist in efforts to develop
