Margaret Miner Wins Clyde O. Fisher Award
On June 30th Margaret Miner, Executive Director
of
Rivers Alliance, was awarded the Clyde O. Fisher Award by the
Environmental
Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. The
purposes of this section
of the Bar Association include safeguarding and enhancing conservation and
environmental equality, and promoting exemplary practice of environmental law.
According to the resolution establishing the award, it is to recognize service
and achievement of individuals “who have made a significant contribution to
the preservation or enhancement of environmental quality through work in the
fields of environmental law, environmental protection or environmental
planning.”
The award is so-named to honor the memory of Clyde O. Fisher
who was an active and regular member of the Environmental Law section,
originally called the Conservation and Environmental Quality Section, and,
again, according to the resolution establishing the award, “led an exemplary
life of public service and accomplishment in the fields of environmental law,
environmental protection, environmental and land use planning…”
Upon learning that Margaret was to receive this honor, Lynn
Werner, Executive Director of the
Housatonic Valley Association and long time
member of the Board of Directors of Rivers Alliance, called Margaret “a true New England treasure.” Marc Taylor, Chairman of the
Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition and
River Network and also long time member of the Board of Directors
of Rivers Alliance said, “I can’t think of anyone who deserves recognition as
an environmental champion more than Margaret.”
